VirtuGrid supplies and installs a home backup battery at no upfront cost. We own it, monitor it, and maintain it for the life of the program.
While your home is connected to the grid, your battery works alongside thousands of others to support it — that's what funds your free battery.
The instant the grid drops, your battery flips to powering your home, automatically. The outage everyone else in Illinois feels never reaches you.
Ownership of the energy in your battery comes down to a single question: is the grid up, or is it down?
While you're connected, the stored energy is ours — we use it to support the grid, and that's what pays for your free battery. You don't see a thing; your power runs as normal.
The moment the grid fails, the energy reserved in your battery is yours. Your home switches to the battery automatically and stays lit — so you can ride out the outage in comfort.
Your all-in rate starts around 12¢/kWh for the energy you use — no equipment fees, no maintenance bills, no surprises stacked on top. Like virtually every energy plan, the rate adjusts modestly each year, and we put the exact figure in front of you in writing before you sign anything.
That's the whole point of how we do business: the number you see is the number you pay, and you'll understand every line of the agreement before you commit to any of it.
That's the deal, start to finish. We'd rather you understand it now than be surprised later — that's how a free battery actually stays a good deal.
Estimate only. Based on VirtuGrid's illustrative all-in rate of 12¢/kWh (which adjusts modestly each year) compared with the bill figures you enter. Actual savings depend on your plan, usage, and energy-market conditions, and are not guaranteed.
Correct — there's no purchase price and no install bill. VirtuGrid covers the battery and the installation, and we own and maintain the equipment. In exchange, you take your electricity through our program for the term of the agreement.
It's a fair trade, and we lay it out in full before you sign anything. The short version: there's a multi-year program agreement, you take your power through a VirtuGrid-approved plan during that term, and while the grid is up the battery's stored energy is ours to use on the grid market. That's what pays for the free install and your rate. The instant the grid goes down, the energy reserved in your battery is yours.
A reserve is always kept for your backup, and the moment the grid drops, your home is switched to the battery automatically. Backup runtime depends on your usage and the battery's charge. (As with any backup system, don't rely on it for life-support or critical medical equipment without a dedicated backup plan.)
You'll generally need to own your home and have a suitable spot for the battery. Take the 30-second check above and we'll confirm whether your Illinois home is eligible.
